"We all want to see our businesses to stay open, we want our schools to stay open, we want our recreational facilities to stay open and they can only stay open if we keep our numbers down."
OXFORD COUNTY - Christmas is right around the corner and everyone is being asked to keep your celebrations small this year.
Local Medical Officer of Health Dr. Joyce Lock says maybe consider skipping the meal this year.
"The infection seems to spread the most when people sit together to eat. I guess because we are eating, we are not masked, we are talking and the virus spreads rapidly around the people in attendance. We see this at workplace lunch rooms and other places where people sit around to eat. So this year it is all the more important to make sure you celebrate with only those people near and dear to you and keep that group really small."
Dr. Lock offered this message to people who remain defiant and are saying they aren't going to change their holiday plans this year.
"We have to all work hard in protecting the people we love. Be very careful who you bring into your home, because you might bring COVID into your home and spread it someone who is more at risk for getting sick or even dying. So be very careful and think twice to keep our vulnerable members safe."
Dr. Lock says another thing to consider is what to avoid a lockdown.
"We all want to see our businesses to stay open, we want our schools to stay open, we want our recreational facilities to stay open and they can only stay open if we keep our numbers down. Ultimately keeping numbers down is in the hands of every single citizen. It's how we behave, if we stay home when we are sick and we wash our hands, then we can keep this infection under control."
Dr. Lock says this more than ever it is really important to stay home when your sick.
