MacKenzie Says Things Have Changed in Oxford

MP Dave MacKenzie is running again and says Oxford has different issues to tackle than it did 11 years ago.

The writ has been dropped and Canadians will head to the polls on October 19th for a Federal election.

Thus far only two candidates have announced their plans to run in Oxford County. Incumbent MP Dave Mackenzie will look to serve the people of Oxford for another four years. He tells Heart FM this election will be about the economy and the security of the nation and says the writ being dropped was only a formality as the campaigning had already started.

"We would be fools not to think the campaign had already started. If you watch the other leaders, they had already been campaigning since June the 19th when the house rose, maybe even a few days before that. I mean the campaign is already underway, the only people I think that weren't in that campaign mode was the national press."

MacKenzie also says a lot of the issues impacting local residents have changed since he first ran 11 years ago. "Things change frequently; when I first got involved in this farm commodity prices were in a deep decline. Those things have somewhat changed I think that most of the agriculture community are getting a fair return when I talk to them. Unemployment was certainly an issue a few years ago; we are fortunate in Oxford County that we have pretty good employment rates, I just passed a few factories this weekend and I noticed they had signs saying they were hiring."

The other candidate in the race is Zoe Kunschner who will represent the NDP. Heart FM will be speaking with Kunshner and airing a story with her shortly. So far the Green party and the Liberals have not announced a candidate to represent Oxford in the upcoming election.
