Rapid and regional transit, affordable housing, infrastructure, and economic development were key items at MOSO
WOODSTOCK - Mayors from around Southwestern Ontario gathered for their third meeting to discuss strategic priorities for the region.
It included 11 mayors from the largest urban centres.
MOSO (Mayors of Southwestern Ontario) also welcomed several experts in various fields. They voiced their opinion about how the region could collaborate on projects.
Woodstock Mayor, Trevor Birtch says once Premier Kathleen Wynne arrived they had specific areas of concentration.
"Rapid and regional transit, affordable housing, infrastructure, such as bridges and road network, and economic development. That is where our four main topics were lined up."
Birtch says the meeting is positive news for Woodstock.
"It's another opportunity to continue to be front and foremost in the senior level government's eyes when it comes to helping improving the quality of life for all of our residents. Another opportunity for us to wave our flag, to let them know we are ready to work with them to make improvements that matter the most."
He says the Wynne addressed the fact that there isn't as much money as they would like to see in the pot, but there are alternatives to help with funding.
"If we look at all the ways we can make that project a sustainable project and have lower operations costs by using renewable energy, you can access more pots of money so you can leverage those dollars to do more and cost taxpayers less in the long run."
Birtch believes Woodstock will have a stronger voice with the collaboration of the province and federal government.
It will ensure as any new programs are rolled out that municipalities are given a chance to deliver their opinion.
