Canine Officer Striker has been working very closely with Officer Dan Skillings since he joined the force about a year ago.
WOODSTOCK - Canine Officer Striker has been with the Woodstock Police Service for about a year now.
Once the German shepherd joined the force he underwent 20 weeks of training, and became fully certified in early October.
Constable Dan Skillings has been working with Striker throughout the year. He tells Heart FM Striker helps the force in many ways, especially when it comes to detection.
"He is trained to locate firearms as well as ammunition. He is also trained in both American and Canadian currency so he is trained to locate American and Canadian money. It's a pretty remarkable tool in the way they are trained and the way they operate with"
Striker also knows how to track down street drugs and to help find missing items or evidence. Skillings adds it is amazing to see Striker in action.
"It is almost unbelievable sometimes to see them work and to be able to locate something that humans would miss for sure."
Striker is also trained to keep his fellow officers safe.
According to Skillings, whenever Striker is also very popular in the community.
"It's quite remarkable the interest right across the board, kids in specific have a million questions. A lot of the questions are the same at every school and every school also has a couple questions that are very very valid questions that it's amazing how much interest and how deep they look into the dog."
