A total of $147,170 was raised for Sakura House this year at the annual Handbags for Hospice Event.
WOODSTOCK - If your a woman in Oxford County, it is likely you are very familiar with the excitement that comes with the annual Handbags For Hospice fundraising event.
The handbags are a draw, however it is the cause that is most important to the nearly 900 women that attended the event on January 19th at The Oxford Auditorium.
The excitement continues, as the final fundraising numbers are now in for the 8th annual event. A total of $147,170 was raised for the end of life hospice care home, which provides hospice care at no cost for patients or their families. The funding comes in part thanks to event the generosity of donors at events like Handbags for Hospice.

"It's so fantastic to see the community come together we definitely couldn't do it without them. Next year is the VON Sakura House 10th anniversary, so we are going to be starting the work to try and celebrate that milestone."
One element of the event called "fund-a-need" is an opportunity to additionally donate to a specific cause outlined in advance. This year, the care station in the patient wing was identified as an area that is needing upgrades to integrate modern technology. The goal was to raise $30,000 for the renovation project, however the final numbers surpassed the goal, raising $44,500. The transformation of the space will greatly improve the functionality for care givers.
The event has raised over $700,000 since it began in 2010 for the ten bed hospice home.
