Paula Morrison is about to spend her last season with the Norwich Minor Soccer Club after 22 years and she's encouraging others to volunteer.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Norwich Minor Soccer will be losing one of it's most valuable members next year.
Paula Morrison is stepping down after dedicating 22 years to the club, spending 15 of those years as President. She also served as a Board Member, the Treasurer and Registrar.
She says the club has grown a lot over the years, starting out with 16 house league teams with the youngest players starting at four-years-old and the oldest players in Grade 6. The club now has 20 house league teams and added it's own travel team.
Morrison says adding the new soccer fields by the Township office was also a big moment for the club.
"We finally ended up getting a huge grant from the Trillium Foundation of $150,000 so we were able to proceed with making our own fields."
She says the Norwich Optimist Club also donated $30,000 to make it happen and the Township provided the land.
Morrison says her time with the club has been an incredible experience but it's time for others to take the reigns.
"I just feel that it's time for the other members to step up even if it's somebody that's just starting out. When I started I didn't know a lot of people in Norwich because I didn't grow up there and it was such an amazing way to meet people and get out in the community and be part of it."
Morrison is currently the Past President as she enters her final season with the club. Morgan Wills is currently President and Morrison says he's a great fit for the job.
She also believes the club has the potential to continue to grow over the years if enough people volunteer. Those interested in signing up can e-mail norwichminorsoccer@gmail.com or visit the Norwich Minor Soccer Facebook page.
