Seven New Auxiliary volunteers have been sworn in with The Woodstock Police Service.
WOODSTOCK - They are not uniformed officers, yet sworn into service just the same by the Justice of the Peace M. McMahon at the Oxford County Courthouse.
Seven new auxiliary members joined the ranks of the Woodstock Police Service on Tuesday October 17th.
The unit is made up of volunteers from the community and assists uniformed officers.
Chief Renton focused in on the importance of the unit.
“The Auxiliary Unit is an extremely important unit within our organization. The unit is structured as an independent body and is deployed primarily at community events and crime prevention initiatives. Other duties include assisting our Uniform Division with front line patrol duties.”
Chief Renton adds “This group of dedicated volunteers are committed to our community.”
Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen adds that Auxiliary officers are always going to different community events.
"They do lot's of programs like lock it or lose it, they do stuff a cruiser, you will see them at a number of different events, they are really invaluable to our community and the city of Woodstock. Having 7 new members is great because we try to go to everything in our community and unfortunately we haven't been able to do that because our numbers were lower and we are excited because hopefully we don't have to turn anybody away in the next year."
Those sworn in are Jordan Wubs, Case Scheltema, Brittany Butler, Shelby Robblee, Meagan Demarte, Dan Murray, Joshua Evans-Gray,
The units dedicated volunteers collectively gave 3,498 hours to the service last year and serviced 53 communities.
