We're one step closer to the merger between Oxford County Public Health and the Elgin St Thomas Health Unit.
OXFORD COUNTY - County Council has appointed four of its members to the Oxford County, Elgin and St Thomas Public Health Board.
Warden David Mayberry, Deputy Warden Larry Martin, Councillor Sandra Talbot and Councillor Margaret Lupton will represent Oxford on the new Board of Health. Mayberry and Talbot previously sat on the Transition Governance Committee.
Mayberry says they won't be the only ones on the panel.
"Oxford get's to appoint four people, Elgin appoints two, St Thomas appoints two and then there will be members of the public that are appointed by the province in an order in council sort of thing."
Mayberry says the board will take charge once the merger between Oxford County Public Health and the Elgin St Thomas Health Unit is finalized.
"The new board will actually take effect on the first of May. They may meet before that just to get used to each other and figure out what's happening but the actually responsibility of the province has said this merger will happen on May 1st of 2018."
New board members will be selected sometime in November, after the provincial election.
