New handheld technology is going to make it easier for Oxford County EMS who are doing mobile COVID-19 testing.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Paramedics now have new handheld technology that will help them with their mobile COVID-19 testing.
Community Para-Medicine Coordinator Ryan Orton says that EMS do anywhere between 600 to 1,000 tests every week in Oxford County.
"We are an official spoke of the Woodstock General Hospital Assessment Centre so we take appointments from them in the morning. In the afternoons, we switch over to a mobile mode, we can see ourselves anywhere in Oxford County. We go to retirement homes, anyone who would difficulty or a hard time getting a COVID test, so even in rural parts of Oxford County, we will go right to there home."
Oxford EMS also test residents at local long term care homes.
Orton says the new technology means members won't have to take in the testing information by hand and then transfer it online. Now all they have to do is scan a health card which will improve turnaround time and eliminate the potential for human error.
"When they get a paper form, they take that paper form and do some manual entry themselves, and now it is just a quick scan of a bar code and away we go, it will most definitely help with turnaround time for results."
