New Progress Flags on Display in Norwich

The Norwich BIA is thanking everyone who donated towards the replacement Progress banners and Nor-Del Cable for installing them.

NORWICH - Progress flags are on display in downtown Norwich once again.

The Norwich BIA shared photos of the new flags on its Facebook page yesterday, thanking Nor-Del Cable for installing them.

The original flags were installed just before the May long weekend, but they were stolen just a few days later. The Oxford OPP has charged a 47-year-old man from Tillsonburg and a 16-year-old from Norwich Township in relation to this investigation. In an interview with Heart FM earlier this month, Ward 2 Councillor and BIA member Lynne DePlancke said the Oxford OPP would be notified once the new Progress banners were up, so they can make sure this doesn't happen again.

Norwich Township Council also heard two delegations regarding the Progress flags last week. Alisha Stubbs spoke in favour of the flags, and Jacob Dey spoke against them. Dey's delegation has been making headlines because it lasted approximately 30 minutes and included hateful remarks toward the LGBTQ community. You can read more about that online here.

The Progress flag is very similar to the Pride flag. It includes the six-stripe Pride rainbow symbol, along with sideways chevrons of light blue, pink, and white to represent trans and non-binary individuals. It also includes sideways chevrons of brown and black to represent people of colour.
