After just a month into the season, a series of progressive initiatives to evolve the game are being offered by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Ontario Minor Hockey Association is offering several progressive tools off the ice to help evolve the game and better serve the sport of hockey.
Among them include online training tools for players.
Director of Communications Matt Rhodes says the main tool they like to promote for online training is their Players Club.
"The first one and probably the one that started everything is our 5,000 Shot Challenge. So we're challenging anybody that signs up to be part of the club to take 5,000 shots, 100 at a time over the course over a handful of weeks."
He says there are tracking sheets and video resources to hone your skills and learn proper technique. He adds if you submit the tracking sheet their partner HockeyShot, who presents the club, will send you a prize. The club provides new and exciting challenges to players to develop their game at home throughout the year. You can learn more about them here.
Electronic game sheets and volunteer training are also being offered.
Rhodes says they partnered with Respect Group for their volunteer training.
"A lot of their programs revolve around empowering and educating volunteers about the prevention of abuse, bullying and harassment and really our ultimate goal is to build a holistic culture of respect within our sporting community. The basis of it is training tools is to become better role models."
They've partnered with Game Sheet Inc. to provide electronic game sheets to its members. It allows for better tracking, saving time for administrative procedures and faster sharing of game-stats information.
The OMHA says several initiatives are consistently being enhanced as technology continues to be one of their mainstays. Growing the approach to management and administration is also a mainstay for them.
Other initiatives include online coaching resources like Video Coach, Chalk Talk and a bi-weekly podcast, along with a outreaching program advancement. To learn more about these progressive off-ice tools, you can head to their website.
