Woodingford Lodge will play a big role in training new PSWs in Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - A new PSW training program is in the works at Woodingford Lodge.
It's a partnership with Contestoga College's PSW FAST program, and it would consist of mostly online learning.
Mark Dager, the Director of Long-Term Care for Oxford County, says there's a staffing crisis across the province but not so much at Woodingford Lodge.
"We hear provincially how people are trying to recruit and they just can't find those individuals. So as a home and as a County we thought this was a good program to initiate to make sure we are never in that situation."
The program would be mostly online but the students practicum would be done at Woodingford Lodge. All students would have to wear PPE and they must follow the same Public Health requirements as Woodingford Lodge staff.
Dager is hoping to start the program in the next few months.
"We're aiming for a starting point of 10 students and hopefully aiming for the end of March. From there we will gage the need thereafter for how many more we would look to bring on, but our starting point would be 10 students."
You must have your high school diploma and your Grade 12 English in order to apply. There will be a streamlined interview process in order to select the best applicants.
