School is back next week and motorists are being reminded to slow down, especially in school zones. Oxford County has approved two new school zones for the upcoming year.
NORWICH / EMBRO - School is back next week and motorists are being reminded to slow down, especially in school zones.
Oxford County has approved two new school zones for the upcoming year. Manager of Transportation and Waste Manger Services Frank Gross says the new speed limits will in place when school is in session.
"We have implemented two new school zones with reduced speed limits, one in Norwich on Main Street East on County Road 18 and the other one is in Zorra Township on County Road 6, just north of Embro at Zorra Highland Park Public School."
The school zone in Embro will move from 80 km to 60 km per hour when the lights are activated and in Norwich it will move from a 50 to a 40 km/h zone. The new limits will only be enforced when the amber lights are flashing on the new signs that have been installed.
Gross explains why they made these changes.
"Concern was raised from the community, from the schools and the local police services boards just to improve safety when students are traveling to and from school and an overall need to improve safety during those times."
Gross says they also want to remind motorists that school starts next week and to use extra caution when traveling through school zones and watch out for the busses.
