A ribbon cutting ceremony is coming up, marking the official opening of the new Douglas Carr Trail.
INGERSOLL - Local Dignitaries will be on hand to cut the ribbon on the brand new Douglas Carr Trail in Ingersoll.
The trail provides a safe route for cycling between CAMI Automotive and nearby residential areas. The project is supported by the Oxford County Cycling Advisory Committee, the Ingersoll Safe Cycling Committee, and it aligns with objectives in the Future Oxford Community Sustainability Plan.
Manager of Transportation and Waste Services for Oxford County Frank Gross says the trail was designed to encourage more people to bike to work.
"It is intended to promote commuter cycling, so it provides that connection from residential areas to the north and to the east, to the employment areas, in the vicinity of the CAMI plant."
Gross says the trail is currently open to the public.
"The trail section is about 1.5 kilometres and it extends from Clarke Street to Thomas Street along Ingersoll Street."
The official ribbon cutting is happening on Saturday May 11th at the North Parking Lot at the Cami Automotive Assembly Plant. A brief presentation will be held shortly after 11:00 a.m. followed by light refreshments and an opportunity to take a walk/ride on the trail.
