The Woodstock Fire Department says no ice is safe ice in the Friendly City, so you should stay away from local bodies of water.
WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Fire Department is warning everyone to stay away from local bodies of water.
Public Information Coordinator Lisa Woods says the ice is not safe in the Friendly City.
"We haven't had a super cold winter at all, so the ice really hasn't had much time to accumulate any depth. Certainly, with the temperatures going above zero for most of this week and next week, we want people to be aware that there is no safe ice."
Woods says you should be careful if you decide to walk the trails at Pittock because the snow is covering some of the ice.
"I'm sure in another day or so you'll be able to see where the water is because of the rising temperatures, but you should walk in pairs. Make sure that somebody is there just in case something were to happen, you have someone to call 911 or help get you out."
If you're walking the dog, make sure they're on a leash.
The WFD has not responded to any ice-related emergencies so far this winter, and Woods would like to keep it that way. The department is in the midst of its annual ice rescue training, so crews will be ready to respond if need be.
