Norfolk OPP responded to two calls over the weekend where drivers were smoking in cars with young children.
DELHI - Norfolk OPP are reminding residents that it is illegal to smoke with children in the car.
They received two calls over the weekend about people smoking with young children in the call. One of the calls came from the Tim Horton's in Delhi and the other one on Norfolk County Road 30.
The Smoke Free Ontario Act states it is against the law to smoke with occupants who are 16 years or younger. Drivers can be fined $125 for breaking the law. Second-hand smoke in motor vehicles can be up to 27 times more concentrated than in a smoker's home.
Norfolk County OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Joseph Varga says the law is designed to protect our youth.
"Drivers often take extra care to protect children in vehicles; having smoke-free cars should be part of that protection."
