A 12 year-old boy and his 47-year-old father were riding on Lynn Valley Road when their side by side ATV rolled over and ejected them.
NORFOLK COUNTY - A 12 year-old boy is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after crashing an ATV.
A 12 year-old boy and his 47-year-old father were riding on Lynn Valley Road near Port Dover last night, when their side by side ATV rolled over and ejected them.
Constable Ed Sanchuk says neither of them wore proper equipment.
"It's been determined through our investigation so far that no helmet was being worn and no seat belts were being worn at the time, hence the ejection from the ATV side by side. So right now we have a young boy fighting for his life, he's in hospital. He's being transferred by Air Ornge to another hospital, but we need to put a reminder out there for everybody to please put your safety as a priority."
Sanchuk says speed played a role in the accident. He says to make sure you are safe while operating an ATV.
"We're just asking everyone to please use some common sense. Please make sure that if you are out on an ATV, make sure you're wearing a helmet. Make sure you're seat-belted in especially on the side by sides and reduce your speed."
