Oxford County amended their Community Improvement Plan during their June 22nd meeting, so it now includes main areas in Norwich and Otterville.
NORWICH TOWNSHIP - Oxford County has amended their Community Improvement Plan so it now includes central areas in Norwich and Otterville. Now the property owners in those areas can take advantage of county tax grant backs.
Director of Community and Strategic Planning Gord Hough explains.
"When you do an improvement to your property and the assessment goes up, which can be a disincentive, the township and the county are saying that we will allow you to not pay taxes on that."
Hough talks about how this will benefit the community.
"The intent is to try to help people to foster some improvements, whether they be to improve the buildings themselves, to renovate them into commercial or residential or just to improve the fassades. Those sorts of things can really do a lot of good for a downtown and we think this is a good incentive program for that."
Norwich Township introduced their tax grant back program in March.
