The OPP have launched their annual Festive RIDE campaign with a focus on alcohol and drugs this year.
OXFORD COUNTY - The OPP have launched their Festive RIDE campaign across the Province, including in Oxford County.
This year they will be putting a focus on drinking and smoking behind the wheel. Not a Drop... Not a Drag is the theme this year as they try to promote safe and sober driving.
So far this year, alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the deaths of 39 people on OPP-patrolled roads. Already this year the OPP have charged over 6,700 people with impaired driving.
Interim Deputy Commissioner Rose DiMarco, Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support says if you drive high or drunk, they will catch you.
"Drivers who consume cannabis and think they can avoid detection by the OPP need to think again. The OPP has a strong set of tools and skills that enable them to take drug and alcohol-impaired drivers off our roads. Whether a person is driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, impaired is impaired. Both forms are dangerous, serious criminal offences and they carry similar penalties."
