A police officer was injured trying to arrest the driver of a stolen vehicle in Ingersoll on Monday morning.
INGERSOLL - An officer was injured after trying to stop a person in a stolen car in Ingersoll.
OPP tried to pull over the stolen vehicle on Earl Street on Monday morning around 10:30. Earl Street is a dead end road and the officer was able to get the stolen vehicle to stop at the dead end. At this point he activated his emergency lights and got out of the car. The driver of the stolen car hit the gas and ran through the parked cruiser to get away from the police officer. This caused the cruiser to move and it struck the officer.
The stolen 2003 Mazda 3 then fled the area and was eventually located on Merritt street abandoned. Police conducted a search of the area and are still trying to find the driver.
The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The car was stolen from Huron County on June 9th. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
