County of Oxford can't exempt themselves from the restrictions of their Official Plan

WOODSTOCK -- The City of Woodstock has won the battle of cross-border servicing with the County of Oxford.

Back in March of last year, City Council unanimously opposed an Official Plan amendment application by the County which requested a connection from the city to a sanitary sewer service to allow for an addition to the County's Public Works yard on the 11th Line just outside of the City's boundary.

Although the City opposed the cross-border services, the County approved the Official Plan Amendment, causing the City to file an appeal with the Ontario Municipal Board.

The appeal was heard by the OMB in February with the decision released last week siding with the City saying the Official Plan Amendment did not represent good planning and was not in the public interest.

The OMB also stated that if the County amended it's Official Plan for cross-border servicing for its own property then how could they deny cross-border service for privately held land.
