Ontario has more than 100 new measles cases, bringing the total of 572 since October, 2024.
ONTARIO - Over 100 new measles cases have been reported in the province in the past week and 30 of them were in Oxford, Elgin or Middlesex.
This brings Ontario's case total to 572 since the outbreak began in October and the Southwestern Public Health Unit accounts for 253 of them. The highly infectious virus is affecting unvaccinated infants, kids and teenagers for the most part.
Public Health Ontario released the latest numbers in a report yesterday.
A majority of the cases are connected to a multi-jurisdictional outbreak that was sparked by a travel-related case in New Brunswick, which then spread to Ontario and Manitoba. Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health, sent a memo to local public health units earlier this month, which stated the origin of the outbreak was a large gathering with guests from Mennonite communities.
