The renovations are complete and the doors are open for the public to see the expansion first hand.
WOODSTOCK -- The Alzheimer Society of Oxford is welcoming the public to come and see their newly retrofitted office and new building addition.
The group are hosting an Open House Wednesday, May 28th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at their 575 Peel Street location.
Executive Director, Shelley Green says the organization were facing a space crisis and needed to find a solution. "We did some extensive research and found that this was the best solution for our organization and the one that we could afford without jeopardizing our client services. So we are very, very pleased to be able to say that we now not only have enough space for our staff and our office volunteers today but we do have some room for expansion into the future as well."
New office space, a meeting room that can be used for volunteer training and a kitchen are just some of the new additions to facility.
Green points out they are also excited about the added wheelchair accessibility in the building. "We have a ramp and we have a wheelchair accessible washroom in the addition and we also have accessibility on the main floor of the original building. So that is one of the most exciting things about our expansion is that we can easily welcome people that have any kind of mobility or accessibility issues to come and visit us for services."
The Society had set a goal of raising $350,000 for the renovations but ended up collecting $376,000 which allowed them to add on a few extras for the expansion.
The Alzheimer Society of Oxford are inviting the public to stop by any time during their Open House hours of 10:00 am to 3:00 pm to take a guided tour, learn more about their programs and services, see their new amenities and enjoy some refreshments.
On a side note, extra parking is going to be available at Elite Dance Centre at 642 Dundas Street or at College Avenue United Church on Peel at Norwich Avenue -- please use perimeter areas only, leaving middle section open for church use.
