Operation Christmas Child is alive and well in Oxford County as a local Facebook group is looking to fill 100 shoe boxes this year and needs help with donations.
OXFORD COUNTY - A Facebook group for people in Oxford and Norfolk County has been created to collect donations for Operation Christmas Child.
They already have 100 people signed up to fill the shoeboxes, which will be distributed to kids all over the world. Karen van de Vrede-Cutajar says she started this group after hearing the schools weren't participating this year.
"So I thought, why not start a group up and see if we can get some donations in from the group, so we can keep this up and going and help kids in underprivileged areas."
The shoe boxes are filled with toys, hygiene products, puzzles and other every day items that would mean a lot to someone in a third world country. Each box should contain a wow item, something the kids would really love. It's also great if the product has the home country of donor on it, as they love seeing items from Canada. Vrede-Cutajar says she has already purchased 100 shoe boxes with the intention of filling all of them.
"I will deliver to the Samaritans Purse drop off centre in November and they will take them, each box will be labelled girl or boy with the appropriate age and they will deliver all over the world and even in remote parts of Canada."
