Oxford County Public Health has taken an extensive look at opioid abuse in Oxford County.
Oxford County Public Health has taken an extensive look into Opioid and other substance abuse in the County.
They found that roughly 400 to 1,200 residents in Oxford may be at risk of experiencing negative health outcomes substance abuse. Those numbers do not factor in substance abuse from alcohol or marijuana.
Seven people died from opioid abuse in Oxford County last year. That number is on the rise and is on par with the Provincial average.
The report also found that opioid use among Oxford County residents was higher than average compared to other Counties in Ontario for opioid maintenance therapy.
Between October 1, 2016 and September 30, 2017, there were 378 Oxford County residents with at least one admission to a provincially funded substance use service. Some of these individuals had more than one admission during this time, for a total of 462 admissions.
