Police urge parents to talk with their kids as the increase in explicit pictures being sent are alarming.
NORFOLK - Norfolk OPP investigate the growth of explicit pictures sent between youth and urge parents to talk to their kids about this issue.
This comes after a concerned parent contacted OPP on November 6, 2018, reporting her daughter had sent sexual pictures and videos through social media.
Police say the 13 year old female met a 16 year old male online and started talking. The male asked for inappropriate pictures and were ultimately sent. Parents found out shortly after and reported this to police.
OPP say they are concerned about the safety of teens and want to create a greater awareness on this issue. And teens need to understand the consequences of their actions long term and short term. Norfolk OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk had this to say.
"Everyone needs to realize the long and short term dangers of sending out photographs and videos of themselves. Those who distribute it also need to be aware of the criminal ramifications of doing so. Once it's out there, you can't get it back and you should not be embarrassed to speak to police about your concerns."
