OXFORD - The OPP have begun their annual Festive RIDE campaign to combat impaired driving.
Police say 27 people have died in collisions on West Region roadways so far in 2022 due to impairment by alcohol or drugs.
They've called it a "disturbing increase" compared to the 15 impaired driving deaths last year.
This year's Festive RIDE Campaign runs from today until January 2 of the new year. Not only can the public expect an increased OPP presence on roads and highways throughout the province, but the campaign is also an education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season.
It's important to note that the police have the right to breathalyze without reasonable suspicion under the Mandatory Alcohol Screening law.
