OPP will be out in full force this long weekend
OPP are out in full force this holiday weekend.
Community Service and Media Relations Officer with Oxford OPP Stacy Culbert, says police are out there looking for "the big four..."
"People wearing their seatbelts, making sure they are not impaired driving or distracted driving or being aggressive. We are looking for people who are heading to the cottages for the first time that sort of thing. We just want to make sure everybody stays safe on the road."
Culbert says while police will be canvassing drivers looking for unsafe behaviour, you can also do your part.
"If you see something that is happening out there give us a call. If you're in OPP area just call 9-1-1."
Culbert says this week's "mock disaster" crash at IDCI was the perfect way to get the point across.
"The message really gets delivered home to the youth in the community that you know, this can effect a lot of people. Not just getting yourself arrested but we're looking at serious injuries or death and your life really does change."
The message isn't just for roadways, OPP are also encouraging and enforcing boating safety this holiday long weekend as well -- asking boaters to have a safety plan, do a boat check and "leave the beer at the pier."
