Drivers are being reminded by OPP to be safe while travelling on the roads this weekend.
OXFORD COUNTY - We're expected to see significant snowfall this weekend and OPP are encouraging drivers to be safe while on the roads.
Regional Media Relations Coordinator for OPP West Derek Rogers says to make sure you're prepared before you travel.
"A few things that you can do before you even leave is to ensure that your fuel tank is full. That's a big one because frequently if we have any road closures and there's a traffic backup you could be stuck in traffic for quite a period of time and if you run out of fuel that's not a great situation."
Rogers adds to also make sure you bring an extra jug of windshield washer fluid and check www.511on.ca for road conditions.
Environment Canada is calling for anywhere between 15 to 20 cm this weekend, beginning today and expected to continue into this evening.
In the event of an accident, Rogers says to call police.
"If you're on a mobile phone and you're away from any place where you can find a number, the easy one to remember for OPP is *OPP on your keyboard. So input that and you'll be connected to our provincial communications centre and they can dispatch help in your direction. Keeping in mind, if it's a little less serious it may take some time to get to you because we do things in a priority sequence, and perhaps there are some crashes on the highway that are more severe in nature."
He adds to give yourself extra time to get to and from your destination.
OPP says to adjust your driving to suit the conditions on the road and give yourself enough time while you're travelling. Also, make sure you clear all of the snow off of your vehicle, including headlights and taillights.
