The West Region OPP is reminding everyone about the dangers of distracted driving.
WEST REGION - The West OPP have handed out 219 tickets for distracted driving during a blitz.
The four week campaign is coming to an end but and Sergeant Ed Sanchuk and Acting Staff Sergeant Julie McLeod posted a video about it on the OPP West Region X page yesterday.
McLeod doesn't think drivers understand the seriousness of driving while using your phone.
"It's unsafe and people still haven't gotten the message because we are stopping and charging so many people."
She adds some people have been watching videos and movies on their phone while driving, almost causing collisions.
"We had someone call into the dispatch centre that they passed someone who had a video playing on the dash of their vehicle while they're driving, that person was stopped and charged."
Sanchuk asked drivers to help them out.
"Do us a favour, put the technology away, put it in the glove box, have your passenger text and do your messages, but don't take your attention of the task at hand which is driving."
He adds that even though the campaign may wrapping up, officers will remain vigilant as they continue to look out for distracted drivers.
It's Thursday's traffic talk with #OPP A/Staff Sergeant Julie McLeod. Week 4 of the STAY FOCUSED campaign and drivers are still not getting the message. STOP putting others at risk and focus your attention on the road, NOT a screen! #WROPP ^es pic.twitter.com/1WvrsSz48P
