OPP want people to think twice before they post their vacation photos on social media while they are away.
OPP are asking residents to be prepared when you go on vacation this summer.
Sergeant Dave Rektor tells Heart FM he is seeing people making the same mistakes when it comes to posting their vacations as they happen on social media.
"When it relates to summer holidays, people have a tendency to want to broadcast that on social media and the unfortunate part of that is thieves have access to social media to and once they know somebody is going to be away, they will and have in the past targeted those homes. The best advice the OPP can give is to not post anything on social medial while you're away on vacation, wait until you get back home and then you can post those pictures or videos."
Rektor suggests that those leaving their homes for vacation should make it look as if people are still living in their homes.
"Have somebody, a trusted neighbour or friend take care of your property for you, whether it's cutting grass or watering grass or making the home look lived in that is so important."
Another tip is to have timed lights to make it look like people are home.
