CENTREVILLE - The Centreville Pond and Conservation Area is going back in time this weekend for Oxford at War 1814.
This free two-day commemorative event looks to educate the public about Oxford County's history and role in the war.
President of the Committee, Karen Paton-Evans, says those in attendance will get to see the 3 attacks that occurred locally in 1814.
"When the enemy American forces invaded Oxford and burnt us out in April and August and November. That, I think, is going to open up a lot of eyes and hopefully people will start to appreciate just how determined Oxford's earliest settlers were."
Paton-Evans says reenactments aren't the only attractions this weekend.
"You can hop on the horse and wagon rides, go visit the village healer, see our quilters and knitters and talk with our settlers. The First Nations People are putting on 'Like a Hero Going Home: the Death of Tecumseh in Upper Canada 1813'."
"Reverend Jim Evans, who is going to be portraying Oxford's preacher back in the day Reverend Enoch Burdick, is going to be doing wedding renewal vows for any couple who wants to put on our costumes and have their wedding vows renewed 1814 style."
The event runs both Saturday and Sunday with events going on at the Centreville Pond and Conservation Area, Beachville District Museum and the Ingersoll Cheese and Agricultural Museum with free shuttles between the three locations.
