Oxford County's Physician Recruitment Group hopes County Council will add to their 2018 budget.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County's Physician Recruitment Group is looking to bring more family doctors to our area in 2018.
They presented a delegation to county council last night, requesting $30,000 out of next year's budget for their efforts.
Dr. Gerry Rowland, the Chairman of the Physician Recruitment Group says they want to keep their success going.
"We've recruited six doctors in the last year to Oxford County. That's five more than came in the previous year and I think that's a direct result of our activities."
The group attends recruitment events at medical schools, pays for advertisements on multiple platforms and they network with existing doctors in order to attract more physicians to our area. They are also planning on completely revamping their website next year.
Dr. Rowland says Oxford County offers unlimited opportunities for doctors.
"You can participate in emergency department, medicine, hospital medicine, office medicine, deliver babies; do a lot of things that most doctors are shut off from in the larger centers."
Even with last year's positive results, Rowland says another 30 doctors are needed in order to accommodate local physician retirements over the next five years. With an expanding population and increasing demographic, that number could rise.
