It is a day to remember and reflect on the past and trying to strengthen the relationship with Indigenous people.
OXFORD COUNTY - There's a few ways you can observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Oxford County.
There will be a special sunrise ceremony with Mary Lou Smoke in the Blue Grass Area of the Pittock Conservation Arena starting at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.
The Town of Ingersoll will also have its Reconciliation Reflection Route in the evening. It's a self guided walk at Yvonne Holmes Mott Memorial Park starting at 6:00 p.m.
A memorial titled The Long Road Back: Bringing Percy Home has been on display in the main lobby of the Oxford County Administration Building for quite some time now. It tells the story of Percy Onabigon, a member of Long Lake #58 First Nation who was taken from his family and sent to a residential school. The memorial will be on display to the public until Monday, October 6th and you can read more about it online here.
You can also tune into Heart FM to hear some special programming. We partnered with Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund for A Day to Listen and it will be on the air from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
