The Oxford County Junior Farmers have made another big donation to a cause in our area.
The Oxford County Junior Farmers have made another huge donation to a charitable organization in our community.
Chaplain and Executive Director for Operation Sharing Stephen Giuliano says this donation means a lot to them. "Operation Sharing received a very generous donation from the Oxford County Junior Farmers Association of $10 000. It is a tremendous boost to the Food for Friends food card program because they had spoken to us when we met today about the fact that they have a high respect and regard for the Food for Friends program."
Giuliano says having local farmers back their cause really speaks volumes about the need for the program. "They see the value and dignity through healthy choices in terms of dietary needs by the less fortunate in our community and the importance that they be welcomed into the grocery store to shop with everyone else in an integrated fashion: this is a huge statement of endorsement of the program and the work we're doing."
$5 000 of the donation will be going to the Food for Friends program while the other $5 000 will go to help Bullwinkles Eatery. The Eatery is a partnership between Operation Sharing and the Salvation Army that will offer hot meals on a sliding scale so everyone can come and eat together as a community. It will also be teaching kitchen staff culinary skills like basic cooking, safe food handling, knife skills, and menu planning.
