The Oxford County Library has a new CEO.
Lisa Marie Williams will take over for Lisa Miettinen, who is retiring after 22 years with Oxford County on March 31.
Williams is currently the Head of Collections for Oakville Public Library and explains her vision for the future.
"I think libraries have been working really hard over the last 10-15 years to change their image but people still think of us as a place to borrow books and we are so much more than that and I think that is one of the things I would like to help Oxford do and help the community recognize. Right now the library has some really great non traditional collections, things like their kitchen lending library, where you can borrow kitchen tools and equipment, which is completely different than books."
Williams says she has been watching the OCL and their team have been doing for years and is really excited to come on board.
"I am excited to join Oxford County as a part of its progressive and passionate Library team. I believe that public libraries can make a difference in the lives of the citizens it serves and that a strong library system helps communities grow stronger. I look forward to supporting Oxford’s municipalities and patrons through innovation, inclusiveness and teamwork."
Williams has also held senior management positions at Brantford Public Library and East Gwillimbury Public Library, in addition to holding children and youth-focused library roles in Ontario and the eastern United States.
Library Board Chair Marcus Ryan says this is a great hire for the OCL.
"Oxford County Library branches are hubs in our communities, playing a role that has broadened beyond traditional services into one that supports the growth and wellbeing of our residents. I am excited by what lies ahead for our library system and for the enthusiasm and perspectives Lisa brings as our new Chief Librarian."
