Oxford County Council has decided to make no changes to the bag tag program for another four years. This means you'll still be paying $2.00 per bag to get rid of garbage until 2025.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County bag tag program is going to stay at $2.00 per bag until 2025.
Council decided not to make any kind of increase at the most recent council meeting. Warden Larry Martin says bag tag user fees offset costs related to garbage pickup.
"Staff looked at that and they determined, that in the first two or three years there will be a surplus, but the last two years there won't be. So at the end of the day, we will end up using some out of reserves so we can get away without increasing the price for the next 5 years."
Martin says he is glad council and staff agreed to keep the rates the same.
"Simply because of the financial climate we are living in, there is a lot of people still out of work and lot of people with businesses closing down, so I think that was the right direction on the part of County staff."
Bag tag fees have been set at $2.00 per bag since the County’s 2014 Waste Management Strategy and have not been changed since.
