The Oxford Health Unit is launching a media campaign to honour World Breast Feeding Week.
OXFORD COUNTY - World Breast Feeding week is in it's 25th year and the Oxford Health Unit wants to celebrate while trying to shine a light on the natural feeding practice.
Public Health Nurse and Lactation Consultant with the Oxford Health Unit, Janice McGill told Heart FM about their key messages.
"Essentially its the natural method of feeding your baby, it has health benefits for both mother and child. It is also sustainable, its beneficial for the environment, its available all the time, women can breast feed anytime and anywhere."
McGill adds that World Breast Feeding week is a time to remind women about the services and supports available. The Oxford Health Unit is launching a media campaign to honour World Breast Feeding Week and to reach the women in the community.
The campaign will hit social media, including Twitter, you will also hear some radio ads as well.
"It typically has a theme that we use to remind people of the benefits of breast feeding, that it is a normal method of feeding your baby and the supports that are available to women out there."
The campaign comes to an end October 7th, however the local supports continue all year, including a local peer la leche support network for new mothers.
More information about the local programs and services offered by the Oxford Health Unit can be found on their web site.
