OXFORD COUNTY - Police are giving good tips for winter driving on Canadian roads.
Winter is coming and the Oxford OPP want to make sure you are ready to travel on Canadian roads.
They recommend getting winter tires to improve your traction and to make sure you clear off all of the ice and snow on your car before driving. Constable Stacey Culbert tells Heart FM it is important to make sure your vehicle is ready for the winter.
"Check to make sure your exhaust is free of any snow, make sure you have proper windshield wipers that are functioning and make sure you always have windshield washer fluid in your reservoir."
She says it is also a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your vehicle in case you get stranded. Here are some items to keep in your kit.
- A fully charged cell phone.
- A call police sign.
- A fully charged flashlight.
- A battery operated radio.
- A warm blanket.
- A tin can and a candle to aid in keeping warm.
- Extra pair of winter boots, hat, gloves, hand/foot warmers.
- Bottled water/juice
- Snack/nutrition bars.
