Oxford County Council received the final inspections of drinking water systems, and the news is good.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council received an update on the drinking water system.
The report was presented at their meeting yesterday, as all 17 system inspections were complete, and the average compliance rating was 98.8%. Warden Marcus Ryan stressed the importance of having safe drinking water.
"Oxford County is responsible, you know, and it's interesting that you bring it up because this is the 25th anniversary of the Walkerton situation, but under the Safe Drinking Water Act, individual politicians can be legally held accountable if people drink water that makes them sick, and I can actually go to jail for that."
Warden Ryan mentions that the boil water advisories were brought up during the meeting.
"I would remind residents that in the end, every one of those well water advisories turned out to be precautionary. Our staff go through a lot of layers of testing. It's not like just at the end of it, they test it, and is it good? There are many, many, many, many stages."
The results of inspections are as follows.
- Beachville 100%
- Bright 100%
- Brownsville 100%
- Dereham Centre 100%
- Drumbo-Princeton 100%
- Embro 100%
