A support group is being created for parents in Oxford County of kids in the LGBTQ community.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Rainbow Coalition is looking to start a support group for parents of LGBTQ kids.
They are having a planning meeting on Thursday April 5th at the Oxford Child and Youth Centre in Woodstock from 4-5:30 p.m. Chair of the Coalition Gayle Milne says they really want to hear from parents at this meeting.
"We are really focusing on parents, so parents of LGBTQ youth primarily and whether that's youth currently or they have had experience in the past, so perhaps they have been in that position in the past and have some wisdom and knowledge they can share with us, and nobody needs to register for the event, they can just come to the meeting."
The goal is to give parents an outlet where they can learn from each others experiences and ask questions on how to support their children.
"You can learn from each other a great deal, so that is one of the greatest benefits of having a group like this and perhaps down the road we can have some educational benefits as well."
Milne says they hope to have a plan in place soon so they can set up regular meetings for the support group.
