Over $7,500 was raised at this years Parkinson's Super Walk in Woodstock
WOODSTOCK - Super heroes took over the South Side Centre in Woodstock for the 4th annual walk for Parkinson's.
About 45 people participated in the walk this year and together they raised over $7,500 for the disease. Since organizers started this walk four years ago in Woodstock they have raised about $44,000. Coordinator of Special Events for the Parkinson society of Southwestern Ontario Steve Hickson tells Heart it turned out to be a great day for the walk.
"All the superheroes in Oxford County, they gathered at the Southgate Centre for a BBQ and a silent auction, and then we had two different walk routes set up inside Southgate Park for people to participate in."
Hickson says all of the money raised will go towards support services, education, advocacy and Parkinson's research. He talks about some of the common problems people with Parkinson's deal with on a daily basis.
"They symptoms are slightly different for everybody, sometimes they are a little more harsher or a little more intense, the ones that are most common would just be the shakes or the tremors, difficulty walking or losing their balance and that kind of thing."
