As the warm weather gets closer, drivers are being reminded to pay attention to motorcycle enthusiasts on the roads.
NORFOLK COUNTY - Norfolk County OPP are providing drivers with some valuable road safety tips as the warm weather arrives.
Norfolk OPP Constable Ed Sanchuk stopped on the side of Blueline Road with motorcyclists in Waterford yesterday afternoon to offer some advice.
One motorcyclist says that drivers need to understand that the dynamics of a motorcycle are different than the dynamics of a car.
"People need to realize that when you're riding a motorcycle there's different dynamics that you don't get in a car like wind and certain things on the road, that you have to be really careful that you keep your distance and allow us to be able to ride our bikes safely."
Another motorcyclist says drivers have to leave some distance as well.
"A lot of people in cars drive very close to us and that really takes our vision off the roads constantly looking behind us, worried about someone is going to run into us."
Sanchuk says drivers need to be prepared that people are going to be riding their motorcycles and that they need to consider that person's safety while on the road.
"If you are on the roadways today, just be prepared, you're going to see quite a few motorcycle enthusiasts out riding, enjoying the weather but more importantly make sure you treat that motorcycle as a person, not just a motorcycle. Give them the time, distance and space and when you come up to that intersection make sure you take those two extra seconds to look both ways because that can make a difference between life and death."
