It's World Breastfeeding Week and the Perth District Health Unit is shining a light on local breastfeeding workshops.
The Perth District Health Unit is shining a light on local breastfeeding workshops in honour of World Breastfeeding Week.
The health unit hosts these workshops, so breastfeeding mothers can support each other.
Those in the group also discuss a variety of topics including the role of peer volunteers, positive communication and strategies for responding to online Facebook posts. The group also encourages mothers to make informed decisions about infant feeding and to seek professional breastfeeding services when needed.
In a press release Public Health Nurse Glenda Blair talks about the importance of breastfeeding education.
"Research shows that mothers are more successful at breastfeeding and do it for longer when they have better access to local supports and information. These drop-in programs and the online support group are tools that help moms to successfully breastfeed."
The health units hosts Breastfeeding Buddies meetings on the first Thursday of every month in Stratford at the Stratford Early Years Centre from 1pm to 2 pm. Meetings also take place on the last Wednesday of every month in Listowel at the North Perth Early Years Centre from 10am to 11am.
Moms can also join the private Facebook Group - Breastfeeding Buddies Perth.
