A number of vigils are being planned around Oxford County and beyond to recognize the victims of the tragedy in Orlando.
LONDON - The Oxford County community can share their condolences for the Orlando massacre victims.
Pride London and other groups from London are holding a vigil tonight (Tuesday, June 14).
This comes after forty-nine people were killed at a popular gay nightclub in Orlando by a individual gunman, Omar Mateen.
Mateen was later shot by the police.
Clark Bryan, founder/Executive Director of The Aeolian talks about the event.
"It's an event to design to really bring people together to give them an opportunity to talk about things and to hopefully begin the process of healing and send out as much as love as we can for the people that were traumatized by the events."
Bryan says this topic is really difficult to talk about, but it needs to be addressed.
"It's really difficult to talk about this. It's really hard to put into words the feelings that you have when something like this happens. But the work that needs to be done in communities around the world to promote diversity, promote education, and help to bring the disenfranchised into the community."
Bryan says this event is an opportunity to keep the dialogue going and help shift attitudes and opinions.
"It will help us all to love one another and live in communities not just as tolerant neighbours but people who actually care for each other."
The vigil is being held tonight at the Aeolian Hall.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The formal portion of the event beings at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is free.
An event is also in the works for Woodstock on Friday. More details on this when they become available.
