There's a petition calling for online voting in Woodstock for the next municipal election and it already has over 280 signatures.
WOODSTOCK - Over 280 people have signed an online petition in support of online voting in Woodstock.
Wes Mazur started the petition on Tuesday, after City Council decided to stick with the status quo for the next municipal election.
Councillor Jerry Acchione made a motion to shift to online voting during the last council meeting, but he was forced to withdraw it after none of his fellow councillors stepped up to second it.
Mayor Trevor Birtch says Acchione's motion would have done away with the paper ballots voters have become accustomed to in the Friendly City. He adds council considered a hybrid option, which would have allowed for in-person and online voting, but it would have cost the City an extra $100,000.
