The public can help put a stop to theft if they report information to the police.
The Woodstock Police are reminding citizens to report suspicious behaviour to them.
Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen says they have recently been dealing with thefts from unlocked garages and shed, and the public can play a big part in helping police put a stop to that, "Typically we would have five constables on the road working and a sergeant so that's not a lot of people in the grand scheme of things, so we can't be everywhere all the time. We have an influx of thefts overnight right now and if people see people walking around and they look out of place and like they shouldn't be there, we encourage them to give us a call so we can stop by and investigate."
She also says that making sure everything is locked can also help deter the thieves, "Right now because of the influx of theft, I would tell people to batten down the hatches; they need to lock garages, they need to lock sheds - we've had sheds entered and expensive things stolen - bicycles. So if people just double check before you go to bed at night and lock absolutely everything."
If you notice anything suspicious, police are asking you give them a call, even if you suspect someone has been drinking a little too much and is posing a danger to public safety.
VanLeeuwen says they'll send someone over to check it out, "People walk home which is great after they've been drinking, but sometimes if they over-consuming they end up on the road and it's dangerous. And it's just better - if someone sees someone just give us a call. We're out patrolling anyway so we will stop by and make sure that everything is safe."
