Powerball Scam

With Powerball fever sweeping the nation, scammers are looking to take advantage of people in Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK - Woodstock Police are warning the public about a Powerball scam that is making the rounds in Woodstock.

How it works is you will get a private message on Facebook from someone who claims they won the Powerball prize and they want to split some of the winnings with you. All you have to do to collect is to wire a small fee to cover the shipping costs. Constable Nikki VanLeeuwen tells Heart FM you have to be wary of certain friend requests.

"The people that our sending the requests have minimal to no information on their page, there just using that, they are putting a fake photo up, this particular photo was of a white male with an American flag in the background and he used the name Ken Rogers."

Vanleeuwen says this is a scam designed to take advantage of the popularity of the Powerball craze and if something seems to good to be true it probably is.
