Premier Considering Implementing Paid Sick Days

Premier Doug Ford is considering implementing paid sick leave for Ontario workers.

Health Minister/Deputy Premier Christine Elliott says the province is considering additional paid sick leave protections for workers in order to fix gaps in the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit program.

The province claims they were waiting to see if the federal government made changes to the program in the budget before deciding whether or not to take further steps.

This comes following calls from opposition parties to enact paid sick leave policies and close non-essential businesses in Ontario.

Elliott says it didn't make sense for the province to enact another policy when improvements could have been made to the federal program.

The program offers $500 a week for four weeks to workers isolating due to testing positive for COVID-19 or being confirmed as a close contact.
