Premier Doug Ford is encouraging people to head back when you get the call as he is hearing more and more reports of people looking to stay home just to collect the CERB.
ONTARIO - Premier Doug Ford is telling people to head back to work.
Ford says he has heard a lot of stories of people who are happy to collect the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit, instead of heading back to work.
"The CERB is $2,000 and their job may be paying $2,500 or even up to $3,000, some people, not all but some people are sitting back and thinking, I am going to take the rest of the summer off and collect the $2,000 and not worry about the additional $500 I can make."
Ford says a lot of people are hiring right now.
"I have just been hearing it more and more, right across the board, when I was in the Niagara Region, almost every company I have been speaking with is saying we have positions. We just need to get people back to work, I believe in supporting the people that need help, especially through this pandemic when we had to shut everything down, I get that."
Ford says now that when we are opening up and we get to stage 3, and companies are calling you back, you need to be going to work.
"I encourage you go back to work, because legally, if they call you back and you don't go back, then you lose your job, that is up to the company, but you won't have a job anymore, somebody else will fill those shoes and CERB is not going to last forever as we all know. So I encourage everyone, when possible go back to work and I realize it's not always possible but if you are healthy go back to work."
